I 1st noticed an issue when my tachometer started bouncing and not working altogether. Then noticed the voltage gauge was in the yellow. I replaced the voltage regulator and thought all was fine when I started it up and everything worked - fast forward to the next time I started it up and it was back to the regulator was bad again. so looking for some help before I replace the generator and regulator all together.. I did meter the regulator and compared it to a new one and there were definite differences. However as far as I can tell when metering the generator it seems to be fine unless it's a bad winding or something intermittent ( as far as I can tell - Im no expert on these things by any means )

I suggest you move this to the HMMWV section so that it gets seen by all of the folks that have them versus sitting in a section on electrical that doesnt get a lot of looks. Guy? @Guyfang

Are you just going by the gauge, or did you test the voltage with a meter.

Could be bad gauge, corroded gauge ground wiring, bad gauge wiring, bad ground strap, or bad generator or bad regulator.

I probably missed things too. I’m no expert.

When the alt is not working does the heater blower work?
There is a contactor in the PCB that excites the alt and powers the heater blower motor.
Also check the voltage at the IGN terminal on the reg, it should be the same as battery voltage.

Yes everything works other than the Tech. and the gauge shows in yellow - After switching the regulator it all worked for 2 starts then regulator dies again - when i meter the regulator the 3 pin connection reads OL like something has burnt out .. Its strange because its going through 2 regulators what ever it is - just want to make sure before I swap the generator and regulator ( which i have on the bench ) don't want to fry anymore parts -

its all out of the truck now but when I checked in the truck I was not getting the 28v - just the battery voltage - after they went bad ofcourse

I moved it to the HMMWV forum. You should be able to post there. And in fact, your answer is here above my post. So it must work. Or are you trying to post someplace else?
