After hosting 2 successful conventions in 1999 at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds and again in 2003 at the USS Hornet Museum, the Military Vehicle Collectors of California has been awarded the 2016 Military Vehicle Preservation Association National Convention. It is scheduled for August 11-13, 2016 at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, CA. MVCC Newsletter Editor Dave Ball and Camp Delta Activities Coordinator John Neuenburg are Co-Chairmen for this event. Past attendees may remember that Dave was instrumental in organizing the vehicle displays at the last two shows. We've been asked by the MVCC President to publish some convention details and spread the word.
This venue is exciting because of its central location within our club’s operating area and where many MVs are in the state. It is reachable by roads of all types. Hobbyists from all western states are used to travelling to the Tower Park meets and Pleasanton is not far from there. This venue is close to the central Bay Area and so it will be easy for people to combine tourism with our show, plus day shopping outings. We hope to attract more long distance travellers than the MVPA usually gets at their shows by talking about the California vacation potential.
This will be an indoor and outdoor show taking advantage of the nice weather in August with practically no chance of rain. Easterners and Southerners will enjoy our relative lack of humidity. Most vendors will be indoors. MVs will be indoors and outdoors. There is a large lawn in our show area for military tents and living history displays and overnighting is authorized there, however our inner show perimiter will be secured at night. A regular dry camping area will be on grass right across a parking lot from our show. Full hookups are at the RV campground at the fairgrounds. The availability of camping on-site will boost multiple-day attendance and vehicle count compared with shows that are only hotel-oriented. Our host hotel is about four miles away via city streets. The awards banquet will be there. An auction and dinner will take place at the fairgrounds. We will have offsite excursions.
At the September 2014 Camp Delta meet during our Membership Meeting on Saturday, Dave and John will talk about the show and introduce the committe heads. Members wanting to help with this event should contact John or Dave. Contact info is in MVCC News newsletter. News will be published on www.mvccnews.net.
Please do not contact Alameda County Fairgrounds or hotels yet! We will let you know when the hotel and camping reservation procedures are set. This announcement is for your long range planning and to get you thinking about how you would like to help run what we think might be the largest MVPA Convention ever!
