404 errors when following old internal links

Looking at my own old threads and some other old postings. When trying to follow links, I several times got a 404 Not Found error.

Did this happen because of upgrading the forum or?

Any way around this?


Probably this was already noticed earlier, but I could not find anything on it. Or it is an error in my system

For example in the following thread post # 15.

If you follow the link, it gives the following error page

Malformed links over the years of various incarnations. I'll have to search to see if I can find the appropriate thread and edit the post.

Using your new address, figured it out for the other links I miss. Not sure it will always work, but the few I tried worked.

just replace everything BEFORE the post number with

https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?

for example:

https://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce/8460-front-axle-seals-boots-stepxstep.html

shows a dead link, but

https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?8460-front-axle-seals-boots-stepxstep.html
is alive and well

Maybe it can be done even shorter or quicker, but this works for me. Make sure you replace - remove the last / before the number as well!
