Found this @ .01 inch thick piece during fluid change. Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Situation: truck just completed 900 miles in helping out in flooded Beaumont Texas including 5-10 miles total in 3-4 deep water.

After returning, the front seal started leaking and an inspection showed 1-2 quarts extra fluid, although none appeared to just be just water.

During draining this piece was right at the plug whole, the plug had minimal fine shavings on the magnet

This is a government rebuild, tag shown below, with about 1300 miles on it.

Thanks again...Fred

There are so many shims spacers and bearings in the 5 ton transfer case. It (the debris) could be from any one of them. Change your oils, Add molyslip. Just keep a general eye on things..

If you find chunks, you should worry. That little sliver shouldn't be much concern though. If it isn't making noise or vibrations then refill with fresh oil and keep on trucking.

Unless you plan to pull it and tear it down, you'll never know if it was from a current failure or just left over shrapnel from before the rebuild. Put a couple hundred miles on some fresh oil and pull the plug again to see if there's more.

Thank you all for this advice.

i am an old retired guy and this is my first adult toy. Even with the scrapes, bruises and busted nuckles I am having a blast. Your great advice is keeping me in the game.

PS this truck was a horse delivering water and food into flooded areas of Beaumont.
