60K spitting out oil from dipstick

Our 60k Gen MEP806B, reads just below the full point on the dipstick when the engine is OFF.
But when the engine is ON, we go and check the dipstick and oil is just spitting out everywhere and we’re unable to get a correct reading.
what should I look for to fix this issue?

Oil is to be checked when the engine is nor running for obvious reasons, which you seem to have discovered.

Sorry, but this is absolutely not true. This generator is made to check oil at any time, running or not. You might need to check the cylinder compression. Is the oil thin, smell like diesel? Are you sure its the right dip stick? How long have you had this set and has it run before, without this problem?

Not real familiar with JohnDeere Engines, but has a critter crawled up and made a home causing a cylinder to fail or valve to stay open. Does this run contant or just when needed. Is the blowby as bad coming out of the oil fill cap as the dipstick?

This Generator currently is on the line with 3 others, it is scheduled to replace one of the current running generators this Saturday. It will run for 3 weeks before it takes another break and servicing.
The blowby from the oil fill point isn’t as bad, just slightly coming out.

Oil isn’t thin & doesn’t smell like fuel. I’m not sure how long this Generator has been out here, but it has ran before without this issue. Here’s a link to how it’s coming outVIDEO

I stand corrected. I read the TM for this model and it does state the Dipstick is labeled for both off and running levels. ive just never seen a wet sump engine with a dipstick labeled for reading running oil levels, especially one this short. That’s what I get for assuming.

Wow! That’s a lot worse than I thought it would be. Somehow the crankcase is getting pressurized. I’d do a cylinder compression and leak down test as a first step.

That would be my bet. Like I wrote before, compression check. Also, and I have seen this happen. With the engine stopped, check the oil, and make sure its the Off side, of the dip stick. I know it sounds silly, but several times when I went to trouble shoot a problem like this, someone was reading the wrong side of the stick. And if you refill a gen set after service, reading the RUN side of the dip stick, you will 100% for sure over fill it. Its a long shot, easy to check and then I would do the compression check. Also, another long shot, if you have several other like gen sets, compare the dip stick. I once put an MEP-802A Dip stick into an MEP-803A. Kinda looked just like your video.

The John Deere engines are not intended to be checked while running. Engines that are will have a two sided dipstick with running and stopped levels. I do have a 4045 engine in my fleet that pushes oil out of the dipstick if you pull it while running. There is nothing wrong with that engine. Do you have closed crankcase ventilation?

I am sorry, but that is not normal. The amount of oil coming out of the dip stick tube in way too much. And yes, these engines are, according to the TM's, to be checked both stopped and running. So there is some kind of problem.
