A/C Control Outputs boxes the same

Are the MEP-002 and MEP-003 A/C Output Control boxes the same? I don't have my laptop with me and the TMs on jatonka's website doesn't seem to have the parts breakdown TMs. Seems like they would be considering the main difference between the 2 models are the engine and generator head.

If they're not the same, would a 003 control box fit where a 002 box should go?

I just picked up my first mep-002a so I am still trying to get up to speed on these but here are the 2 parts commonality pages from TM-9-6115-624-BD. Hopefully this will help.

If you are talking about the output box on the side of the set with the main lugs, yes they do have the same components in them, but they are not exactly the same. If you take off the lower cover you will see the CT/CVT assembly. The MEP-003a has 2 wires with 2 wraps each going through the assembly, and the MEP-002a has 2 wires with 4 wraps each going through the assembly. That, and the main breaker are the only differences between the two.

Speddmon, that's the box I'm talking about. So, can I take a 003 output box and put it on a 002 and have it work?

It will work, but it won't work right. If you have a box from an 003a, you need to take one of each of the large wires that are going through the CT/CVT assembly and take 2 wraps out of it. That assembly is what gives you the feedback for your % load meter. And since it ties into the voltage regulator, you may over tax your VR as well. Also, the main breaker will not be the correct one, but that is of less importance due to the nature of the breaker.

I thought MEP-016B, MEP-002A, and MEP-003A all used VR # 6110-00-764-7621.

Ah, OK. I was told the 3kW reg would work on 3k, 5k, and 10K units, but it stands to reason that would be the 3k, 5k, and 10k 3600RPM gens, MEP-016, MEP-017, and MEP-018 That makes perfect sense now.
