ABS troubleshooting

I have been informed I will be helping a buddy figure out why his ABS system isn't working. Is there any "trouble items" to look at first, or is this strictly a "follow the TM" type of thing. Thanks for any tips in advance.

Check to make sure you have 120 lbs of air and 24 v first then check the box if have a good one to swap in if those things don't get it to working hook it up to the diagnostic box and get ready to pull drums to clean the pickups.

Gimp check the ground for the ABS system. It is part of the PCB mounting. It grounds through the stud and spacer. I have seen a lot of paint on those four surfaces that can cause a dirty or floating ground.

My problems were blow fuses (simple to check) and bad connections (no bad parts) at the ECU and valves. Those are easy places to start. However, I did have the Haldex reader and it pointed me right to the bad connections.

I bought one of the complete ABS kits after messing with mine for a while. I wasn't blowing fuses, just couldn't get the light off. It ended up being my wiring harness after trying a new ECU. My air lines were obviously man handled and I believe the original ABS harness was damaged during that 'maintenance'. It still takes my light a long time to shut off, as in after warm up and some driving. I will continue swapping in new parts from the kit until the light goes out quickly on start up like others I have seen. Like Jonesal said, the connection at the ECU was bad too. The new harness locks up securely unlike the old damaged one. No zip ties and tape required.
