Allison Asterisk...no start

My M1083a1 will not start. The rocker switch on the dashboard powers up fine, but pushing the red start button does nothing. It won't crank.

I can get the engine to crank by putting a screwdriver across the 2 big terminals on the starter relay mounted on the driver side framerail.

Battery voltage looks good.

I think the problem is the Allison transmission controller. It just shows an asterisk.

Any ideas?

Correct. Computer isn't happy for some reason. Pull the TCM (under the PDP kick panel) and send it to get tested.

Could be the tcm could be the keypad. I have replacement tcms and can test yours.

Known as a cat's eye. Usually it means there is a loss of battery power to the TCM.
There is lots of WTEC3 trouble shooting information available on the internet. Maybe verify that you have good battery voltage at the TCM?
