Where's the 'F' part of the FEMTT? I just see a Cummins in a couple pictures(cant tell what version). Is it going to be a Big Cam IV, or something with some pep?

Soni titled the truck as Fast in the acronym FEMTT. Just wondering the details of that. Maybe a 7 speed with OD will let it go fast.

Fast is a relative term. If you are driving a Trabant in Moscow only to be passed by a Ladda, you would say the Ladda is fast.

OK...That's what I was looking for. Makes sense now.
I had a good weekend, the weather held up and the temps were in the low forties. I also got unexpected help from my good friend Branko, who came down to help me for the weekend!
So all this caused me to make some nice progress on the FEMTT. (And yes...the "F" stands for "FAST" compared to a stock HEMTT....so I'm not trying to win the "Indy 500"!!! Lol)
As I mentioned earlier, I'm trying to emphasize on getting the steering setup installed and the front bumper/armor finished.
Once that is all fitted, I can take the cab back off and finish all the welding, that I can't get to with the cab in place. Obviously it would be pointless to hook up any of the wiring or pneumatics before the cab is installed for good.
Since I was waiting for Fedex to bring me the conversion u-joint to fit the steering box yoke to the stub shaft, I worked on the front bumper instead.
As I explained earlier, I want to have better protection for the crew of the FEMTT. This task consists of constructing a heavy duty, pan shaped lower bumper. The top part of the re-enforced front shield/bumper frame will remain clad in 1/4" thick aluminum.
Anyway, I got the 1/2" thick "armor" plates welded on, fabricated the outer bumper struts ot of 1"x2" flat bar (instead of the flimsy factory 1"x2"x1/4" angle iron) and fitted them to the outer edges of the front plates.
We did a bunch of cutting, welding and grinding, drilled and taped a bunch of holes and the result is an almost finished extra heavy duty front bumper! The only thing left to do is to fit and install the original HEMTT grill.
On the steering I got the motion plate mounted to the frame with three 3/4" frame bolts. (Probably overkill, but it is the STEERING after all) I still have to weld up the upper stub shaft and machine the slots for mounting the parallel gear box on to the motion plate. The slots are needed to make sure there is no bind on the slip-less lower stub shaft.
Can't wait to get it all hooked up and see if it really turns in the right direction.....

That looks awesome Soni! I am really digging that plate out front. Are you going to do protection for the headlights too? A couple small bars welded across over the lights to the other side of the plate would work I'd think. Exceptional work.

Wow... this post has made me realize that I have wasted my life on wine, women and song... err... well mostly wine... I wish I had worked harder at fabrication and welding... What a project! Cannot wait for the next update. Keep up the good work... You make me feel like the guys that "build" these "custom" choppers by going to a drag specialties catalog or the HD dealership and buying a truckload of add on chrome, open pipes and doo-dads... and call their bikes "custom"

This is exactly why I have followed Soni's work for many years. PLUS, he is doing it outside! No garage here. How many of you guys build something like this in the winter outside?
