One thing l rarely see mentioned in restorations of post Vietnam vehicles, especially with the M1009 is stenciling the drivers name and rank on the bottom of the drivers side windshield and if its a command vehicle, the company commander/1st Sgt's names on the passenger side.

Now l don't know if this was Army wide, but at Bragg during the mid to late 80's, this was the norm.

When l owned my M1009, l stenciled my name as the driver, and my wifes as the passenger, but of course l was the pvt and she was the general :)

All our vehicles in the late 80's early 90's had driver on driver's side and the vehicle commander (section Sgt) was stenciled on the passengers side.
