Does anyone know what type of aircraft this FM antenna was mounted on. It is very similar (probably a later generation) of the FM whip antennas that were used on the O-1 and O-2 in Vietnam. The antenna is built a little stouter and measures 55.5 inches from tip to tip and tapers from 1/2 inch at the base to 1/4 inch at the tip.

The machined aluminum base weighs .7 lbs and is 5.75" long and 3.75" wide. I have been unable to determine what the aircraft application was and could use some help with the ID.

Thanks Guys,

Steve

That length radiator is tuned for 5.56 meter length radiowaves and is about 60-70 MHz. That is if my math is correct. This is at a 1/4 wave length. Half wave would be for just below amateur 2 meter band, and could be to other tactical communications in the 125 to 140 MHz.

Could be for FM air to ground communications for spotters and other airborne controllers.

Hope this helps

Thanks I appreciate this info. It may be a Helicopter antenna.
