For those that won trucks at Ft Sill on the 25th......

You may have won running trucks, but DO NOT plan on it for your recovery.

Have backup plans in place.

While the GL ladies are extremely helpful, there are issues.

The trucks are not at the GL yard, they are at a base storage/maintenace yard and the yard supervisor doe NOT allow any inspections/preview/repairs. He is strick on this issue. Also no working on them, fluid checks only. If it does run you are allowed to drive it off base.

You make an appointment and you better be there. 15 minutes late and you have to reschedule. Base rules, not GLs.

No load out assistance, no loading dock and usually only 30 minutes to get in and out. GL escort required.

One good thing is the trucks are local and the fluids are usually still there.

So to summerize: Plan on towing out, have someone pull it offsite or if shipping, a truck with a detachable trailer and winch.

Out of the three trucks I have picked up there, two where runners with a little help and one needed a new tranny. All where towed off.

You forgot to mention plans for another tow truck to tow your tow truck, when your tow truck stops wanting to tow! :driver:

I will be picking up a few deuces and will help anyone I can while I am there.

Now James, if the tow truck of the one I was towing didn't need it's own tow truck, then we would have never met under the circumstances we did.

By the way, how much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood? Of course it depends on how long it takes the EUC to clear and EPA approval.

It's about a mile to the closest gate. ANother 1/2 mile to a parking lot.

They allow jumping right?

Sure. But bring your own jump source, as they do not provide a jump.

You would have time to change batteries, check fluids, etc.... Just not alot of time to troubleshoot if something is wrong.

A wood chuck would chuck as much wood as a wood chuck could chuck assuming the wood chuck wanted to chuck any wood at all. And only if an officer told him to chuck. Andrew

Mark and I picked up mine Tuesday.

Drove on base at 7AM and waited for the GL people to show up. Then the office lady led us over to the yard.

Then we swapped out batts, checked fluids, and she fired right up! Aired up tires, checked the brakes, and we skeedaddled. All told, it took about 20 minutes to get it started. Airing up the tires and everything took another 20 or 30 minutes.

500 miles to home and she ran like a top.

That said, I really lucked out. Definitely have a backup plan if you're picking anything up out of Fort Sill.

What's funny is this truck has alot of indications that it's a pretty old truck. Elephant ear mirrors, canvas shifter boot, wooden cargo uprights, the remains of a canvas cab top, etc... BUT, it's one of the smoothest shifting, nicest driving deuces I've ever driven. Go figure.

Well I helped pickup three trucks from Ft Sill yesterday. Towed them out.

Looked at some others that didn't have any brakes.

Pics to follow.

What was funny was the lady telling bystanders "they think they're going to start that thing."
I think she was kind of mad when it did start.

On the "local" issue, Andy's was marked Delaware National Guard.
