Hello everyone,

I just got an M1009 CUCV (1985 Chevy Model D10 Blazer MPV).

But am having a hard time finding an auto insurance company to insure it,
so I can register it and get tags under my name.

What insurance companies can I call to get insurance for this vehicle?

By the way, I got it as a birthday present for myself Friday June 4th, 2010.
And I am happy with it so far, and look forward to seeing what it can do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, have a good day,

CycleJay

Hey there CycleJay. Welcome to the site. You will find tons and tons of info here on MV insurance. Just use the little search box provided here to find endless information.

Have fun with your new CUCV!

Or like MadDawg308's signature used to say:
Teach a man to build a fire, keep him warm at night.
Set him on fire, he will be warm the rest of his life.

only question USAA had for me was "does it have any guns mounted on it"

my response was "no, but that would be really freaking cool if it did" andthey still covered me

Cant you just give them the vin number and tell them its a chevy blazer?

Sometimes, but you might run into trouble if your the first owner since the government. I say this this because the VIN will not show up when they run it and if they are not familiar with MV's it is kinda hard to explain how your the first owner when the vehicle is 25+ years old.

The agent I delt with was not all all familiar with cucv's she wanted a picture and I told her to just google/image search M1008........And BINGO she was like "oh its a pick-up truck" no issues after that.

They said shes out this week......
Personally I prefer not to deal with Proggressive, they tend to do the hook and bait (at least with motorcycles) They give a decent acceptable rate then when it comes up for renual they jack the rate up knowing that most people will just pay it since the policy is already set up. In my case it was done with no claim, no tickets, no accidents, or citations of any type, they went from $996 per year to almost $1500.

I use milemeter. They charge you per mile. I work from home, and my wife works ike a mile from the house...so we don't drive that much. I think the insurance for my wifes jeep is 38 bucks for 6 months. I haven't put my cucv on yet, but as soon as it's running...and assuming we are stil using fossil fuels at that point...I'll add it.

The problem with the VIN is the D in the 5th place. Civilian trucks are a C for 2WD and K for 4WD, D is Government Contract and sometimes comes up as 'Postal Truck' because of the mail vehicles using that same code. Most insurance people aren't used to a vehicle not being in their computer... That said, Colorado USAA had no problem with either of my CUCVs and it came up straight away in the computer.

Just explain it to them that they'll have to enter the VIN manually and that it is a standard C/K Truck or Blazer and you should be good to go. Bring pics if you have a local agent to show them to so they can get it easier.

Later,
Joe

I insured mine thru Farm Bureau. Just told them that it was a Blazer used by the military and gave them the VIN. They wrote the policy with no questions. I only have liability insurance.

Same here, bro!! I called state farm and saved a boatload on my cars, they also insured my M1031.
