Cool name, huh?

Anyway, I am going to try a "get together" / Rally this year. Door prizes (for vehicles present), hats (for vehicle owners bringing a vehicle), meal, cruise, scavenger hunt, military museum tour and anything else I can come up with between now and then.

Location: Atlantic, IA
Date: 16 May 2015

I expect about some of the "local folks" will bring their vehicles. That is everything from Mules to Tanks.

PM me, if you are interested in more information.

I'm in as long as nothing major happens that day. I'll bring my 1986 M1009. I live down the road in Linden, by Panora.

This will also be my first MV rally. Will be fun meeting new people, seeing their vehicles and enjoying the activities. If you need any help with planning or anything, send me an email or pm. I'm pretty close to Atlantic.

I'll put it on the calendar. Not sure if I will drive the M35 as that is well over 150 miles each way but I will be there one way or the other.

Thanks guys!

I am making a list and will send out emails (my preferred method) as more information becomes available.

I had a discussion with the Police Chief this morning about this. He said he is willing to stop traffic and escort us through the town on our "cruise". I expect most of us are on good terms with our local law enforcement. If you are not, you should be. It makes "things" easier.

To all of you folks that are looking forward to your first rally, me too. This will be my first one, too. If you have any ideas, let me know. I will try and make it happen.

One thing that is very important is a "registration / reservation" as soon as you can. I am the President of the local 501.c3 organization that owns the former National Guard Armory here in town. My plan is to have the rally at the Armory, because - you know - it is an Armory. Anyway, the parking for the military vehicles and any "civilian vehicles / trailers" might be a little tight. If we get too many, I will most likely move it to the fairgrounds.

Oh, and I have already ordered hats. I can order more, if I need to. I just need to know an approximate attendance. Hats are for the vehicle owners - not especially for the vehicles - cuz I know some vehicles are owned by you and "the better half". At the BA-DA BA-DA BING BANG RALLY, all owners get a commemorative hat. Oh, and there is also the headcount for food.

Sorry about the scheduling conflict with the findley show. There are only so many days in the year and in Iowa some of them are really cold.

Anyway, I hope this will work out for us. It should be fun. Don't forget to let me know what you think we should do at our rally.

Might be a thread (or a sticky) somewhere here on-site with "lessons learned" about putting on a rally. Might be worth a PM, say like to the mafia of the GA Rally, to pick their brains (you know just so you don't have to re-invent the wheel or anything).

Looking for that sort of thing at this very moment.

Haven't found anything, yet - but still looking.

Eight personnel (including you) with six vehicles (I think - some have not identified their vehicle.)

This does NOT include six more personnel with at least nine vehicles that are local - that I have not heard from, yet.

I really hope they noticed the "early registration" part in my email to them.

On another note, I did drive/measure the "cruise" route yesterday morning. It was snowing too hard to use the snow blower and there was only six inches of snow on the ground already, so why not? Total distance was 5.6 miles. Oddly enough, the driving speed was probably the same as we will do on the real cruise, because of the Winter driving conditions - blowing snow, ice, visibility, etc. I doubt we will have the same conditions in May.

We are up to 12 owner/operators and three unidentified vehicles.

There are 7 confirmed vehicles.

Still waiting on confirmation of 4 more owner/operators.

Cruise route is 5.6 miles. New street construction not scheduled until the following month.

Much expectation from the folks I have talked to around town.

Picked up the owner/operator caps this afternoon, but I left my camera out in the garage. I will try and post a photo tomorrow.

It is not too early to respond. Don't forget to identify your vehicle, so I can determine parking availability.

Still waiting confirmation on a tank, Weasel, half-track, Gama-Goat that I can think of right now. Those are the "local" guys.
