Broken Pushrod

I was in the process of changing the mechanical fuel pump on my 1984 6.2 CUCV and noticed the pushrod was broken. Anyone know if fixing this is as simple as sliding a new one in from the bottom (in the same place where the pump is located)? Or do I need to remove the top end components to replace (intake manifold, etc)? Any and all assistance is deeply appreciated. Thanks,

Dan

If its the same as a GM gas engine, and I presume it is, its as sinmple as pulling the old out and the new one in. Coat it with just a little wheel bearing grease and it will stay up in the hole while you install the pump.

It seems that quite a few people here have broken the rod. I figure it must be that the rod had dropped down into the recess before they have installed and tightened the pump. Make sure the rod is fully recessed and pump lever contacts properly when installing,
