California Trip for 5 tons.jpg

Just getting to know my California Girl. Very pumped to be a part of the MV world again.

I recently returned from a 2000 mile journey with a truck in tow and one following behind. Travelled from San Francisco to Alberta Canada with relative ease thanks to a lot of considerate and patient American public. I am very impressed with how the public slows down to let you merge although it could have something to do with size I believe it is more about respect for those who serve. It was an honour for me to be able to make this incredible journey.

Despite getting on the wrong roads a few times the only problem I had was a broken steering assist cylinder on the pass side steering. It happened when I got in a residential area at 2 AM in a close and got myself and the truck I was towing snarled in between a couple parked cars. I ended up having to push the tag truck sideways with the tow bar to get out.She steered ok as long as I was moving so I see just how much the slave cyl does to help. Got up in the morning and swapped the cylinder with the tag and off I was once again. The whole trip took 4.5 days.

I figured it was about $50.00 per hr to tow one and about 3 hrs per tank fill. Three hours is just about right for a good leg stretch. We even managed to sleep on the bench seats for a short afternoon nap to wait for cooler evening temps.

As I stated above I am real happy to be a part of this community and my new addition will be well cared for.I realize some folks don't like seeing these headed north but the negative alternative of seeing them go for scrap is just heartbreaking.Hopefully I saved one and I look fore ward to setting it up for my hobby use.

Thanks Mike,

I expected more mechanical issues but it was pretty good overall.Everything seemed to work better as I went and new systems came on line (CTIS) The horn also came on when it popped out of the steering wheel. With ear plugs installed it took a few moments of head scratching as to what the noise was and the air dryer kept cycling.

Congrats and welcome to the Big Green Addiction. Oh and congrats on a fun recovery!
