The EMU-309 UH-1H Huey has not appeared at the Camp Delta meet in CA for many years. This magnificent tribute to assault helicopter companies during the Vietnam war really added a lot. They would like to come back on Saturday April 25, 2015 but need to raise some money to make it happen. We are looking for donations.
EMU, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit, owns and operates 309 and they raise money to operate the ship two primary ways. They sell memberships at various dollar levels with the most basic being a $35 membership. Memberships at the $250 level and up include invitations to open houses at their Hayward Airport hangar where they do “proficiency flights.” EMU, Inc. also seeks donations to make specific event appearances possible. Their classification as an experimental aircraft prevents them from “selling rides” at events. They have told us a target donation amount that won’t cover their total expenses but will guarantee they appear on display at Tower on Saturday afternoon April 25.
The interesting wrinkle is they will do a demonstration with John Sorensen’s PBR 210 patrol boat on the river just past the levee gate! This would happen at 1300 and after that they would land at the LZ for a display. Some MVCC officers and others have already pledged donations. Can you help make this happen? You will get a tax deductible receipt for your donation. Anything will help - $50, $100, or more. This is an event donation, not a EMU, Inc. membership as described above. Please contact their public relations manager and MVCC Life Member Tony Lindsey at 510-468-9942 or tony@hueyvets.com to donate, join, or both. Tell him the MVCC sent you! See http://www.hueyvets.com to learn the history of this very interesting project and what they do to honor our veterans.
