The biggie returns to 49er RV Village Resort and adjacent Amador County Fairgrounds the last week of April 2022! Scenic, quaint Plymouth in the Shenandoah Valley Wine Country in the low California foothills will see more hunters of olive drab, forest green, and battleship gray artifacts than they saw gold miners in 1849! This is the largest annual military vehicle event West of the Mississippi. Former annual Spring events were The Patterson Rally, Big Bear Park, Camp Delta at Tower Park, Camp Petaluma, and in April 2019 we moved to Plymouth. We finally found a place with lots of close-in visitor parking! For those unfamiliar with this event, here are the bullet points:

  • No admission fee
  • No MV registration fee
  • No parking fee. Trailer area designated
  • Swap meet for pros and amateurs. No vendor fee but must rent a campsite or cabin
  • Informal military vehicle show. All welcome, any condition, any country of former service
  • MV excursion
  • MV poker rally
  • Women's activities
  • Military vehicle showcases Friday include Ford GTB Bomb & Cargo Trucks, M151 MUTTs and Variants. On Thursday a Barn Finds showcase for unrestored MVs saved from the scrapper's torch. Running or not! What do YOU have you have not gotten to?
  • Willard Reproduction 6v Battery Cover Discussion Group, Display, Friday morning. Meet the creator
  • Annual raffle, a fundraiser for the extremely non-profit promoter, the Military Vehicle Collectors of California
  • RV and travel trailer camping only at the 49er, no tents except free standing canopies for vending, displays
  • Tent and car camping at the adjacent fairgrounds
  • MV display/parking space for those commuting from hotel or home
  • Practically no visitor parking inside the 49er RV park
  • Souvenir event and MVCC merchandise booth
  • MVCC General Membership Meeting, all welcome (Camp Plymouth is not just for MVCC members but we welcome all into our club)
  • Amenities at 49er include pool, spa, café, kids play area, washers and dryers, restrooms, showers
  • Hotels, B&Bs are nearby
  • Grocery store, restaurants, 40+ wineries, and an auto parts store are close
  • Visitor parking and the fairgrounds campground are at 18843 Empire Street
The Military Vehicle Collectors of California is the promoter and we have arranged a discounted block of RV sites and cabins at the 49er. Four night minimum at the 49er. Our rate will be good for several days before and after our event, for those using the place as a base for tourism. No minimum stay in the Tent Sector at Amador County Fairgrounds across the fence. You must go through Jo-Ann Lesser to reserve a space in our block. For 49er reservations, Jo-Ann gives their office a list of who reserved what site in our block. You then contact them to confirm and pay for your site. Pay the MVCC in full for tent sites. Download the camping form on the calendar page at www.mvccnews.net

Sellers will be in both venues.

If you rented a space in April 2021, your name is on it now. Tell Jo-Ann to confirm you want it again or request a change. There will be a deadline. Unclaimed sites will be turned back into the 49er office 30 days before the meet. Where you were at the last Fall meet does not put your name on that site for the Spring meet.

Her email is MVCCCampmistress@yahoo.com

Tuesday is a set up day, not officially a show day. Sunday is a pull out day, not a show day.

Details about the MV showcases, excursions, social activities, and meetings are at www.mvccnews.net

Shameless picture of this writer's fleet and trinkets last September. We hear the 49er has more land and plans expansion, likely more pull through sites and cabins. We don't know when...

The infamous jeep showcase in the arena in 2019. I think 65 here and 10 or 12 elsewhere in camp

More info is on the promoter's website www.MVCCNews.net with a link at the top of the event calendar. Look for all event info and eventually an activities schedule over the coming weeks and months. Here is a flyer for the GTB Bomb & Cargo Truck Showcase. More info to follow about the M151 MUTT and Variants Showcase plus the Barn & Field Finds Showcase. See original post.

By the way, and this is for MVCC members and other people they might talk to, in the recent club newsletter the M151 Showcase was said to be for Fords. This was a slip up, it is for the off-brand too (AM General)!

We added something to the schedule. Willard Reproduction 6v Battery Cover Discussion Group & Display will be a meeting from 10:30-11:30 next to the Ford GTB Showcase Friday morning.

Robert Lentz from Florida created, built, and sold many of these over the past year or so, discussed heavily on another MV forum. When I heard Rob is coming to this meet from Florida to check it out and visit the GTB display because he has one, I got the bright idea to schedule this meeting so folks can meet him and hopefully we will have some jeeps and other 6v MVs there with his Willard units mounted. Could be there will be examples of the units built by the company who is taking over production.

The current activities schedule is hot off the presses today. See below.

If you have one of his Willard covers and battery installed in your MV and if you are within range, will you bring it to Camp Plymouth and open its hood during this meeting? Please email me or post a yes. Some will be curious how folks have sealed the top and maybe the terminal-to-top area, what sealer they used, and if they painted the logo, exactly what color? Bring a can of the paint if you can. If you can't bring your MV, how about just the finished battery? Anybody have an original 6v Willard or any other vintage battery to show?
