Say its 35deg, F outside in the morning..... On my M998 the glow plug lights comes on,,,then goes out in the normal time. I hit the key and it turns over, but doesn't light right off. Have to crank it over a second time and then it starts... Is this pretty normal ?? Just checking... Thanks.

13 degrees last week... Started first time. No fussing, No smoking, No coughing. Diesel "rattle" with cold advance for 10 seconds to a purr.

Who said the desert was hot? CAMO

Speaking of diesel engines in general, those with an aux heating mechanism as a cold weather start aid can be cycled multiple times to facilitate easier starting.

When it's below 0*F, I cycle the plenum heater in my pickup twice before attempting starting, as a matter of course.

On the HMMWV, I have never had to cycle it more than the first time. It started last year at -6*F after one cycle of the glowplugs.

I suspect you may have a bad glow plug or two. When it starts in the cold does it run with a dead miss for a few seconds?
