I hope that there is an especially hot place in hades for the cowardly SOB's that set off IED's against our vehicles and innocent Iraqis.
This war needs to come to and end....soon.

War is always a horror for someone. I am very saddened by that picture. At the MVPA con a specialist attached to the LAV told me he was doing physical security on a cable about a mile long and spotted a wire near it and was told to investigate. he found some kind of hooptie radio set lash-up at the other end some 1/4 mile away. It was a mil-radio looking home-made box with unbeknownst to him a cellphone inside and two 50 cal mortars as an IED under the set. He was very lucky to have not touched it and the enemy that was waiting to detonate it did not do so, presumably waiting for a few more soldiers to come investigate. The two enemy soldiers about 1/4 mile away escaped but at least the SPC was not killed. He said he was not 21 yet, I hope I did not break the law by sharing some cigarettes with him out back of the convention center. He was suspicious and called in, and EOD took care of it. He was however ordered to 'get that radio'.. so he went a distance away and began pulling it by the wire. When it came off the dune, it ripped the wires off the explosives, and he had his prize, but it could have as easily detonated. Geez these men are so young and they are pledging their lives on our behalf.

Its 18 for cigarettes, and 21 for alcohol. I think if you can die for your country you can at least buy a beer...

We used to get the new guys in engineering on the ship, once a month we would have a 'hail and farwell' where we welcome the new guys and say good bye to the ones leaving. We always let the new guys drink, we were there, we took care of them (didn't let them drink and drive, or get into trouble, or get too terribly sloshed.) So what if I was breaking that law? when you are in the service half the laws of the Constitution don't apply to you anymore anyway, even though you swear an oath to protect it. The UCMJ is much stricter, but it has to be because of the demands and impact of Military Service.

Back on track, that truck is mucho trasho. Hope everyone over there in that hell makes it through ok. Even if they all return with their bodies intact their minds will be forever affected.
