I plan on adding a 2nd alternator for 12v accessories to my deuce and am kicking around the idea of dropping the 24v alt and using two 12v alts, one being an isolated ground like the CUCV charging system. I dont really have the room for a 3rd battery right now (2 Hawkers in the battery box so 3rd wont fit) and I wont be using any high demand devices. Most draw would probably come from a small 12v atv winch on my bed crane.
Has anyone done this, and/or is there any reason I shouldn't? Since I already have both CUCV alts it seems to be pretty much a no brainer, at least in theory.
