ok, since there seems to be enough interest here is how this is done. i am set to have a shop in baltimore make a gear set to replace the 5th gear set in your transmission now. production should start in about a week or so and should be available by the end of november. in addition to this gear set you need to replace your mainshaft with a modified one i am making. i am reducing the diameter where 2nd gear runs and fitting a needle roller cage. this will prevent 2nd from seizing to the mainshaft which has been an ongoing problem for anyone running these transmissions faster than designed. i need to obtain a small supply of mainshafts to use as exchange units for yours or have you send me yours for modification. from there it is a fairly simple task to install the mainshaft and 5th gear set. you will also need to upgrade 2nd gear to the latest type with 4 holes in the web of the gear. depending on your transmission, you may not need any other parts but you may want to replace some bearings at this time and even the syncro assys as they are only $150 each and readily available. also you may need a gasket set if yours does not come apart cleanly. i am figuring the gearset being about $850 and the mainshaft mod being about $275. add to this the cost of some shipping and the cost of 2nd gear if needed and you will be just over $1200. i plan to find a shop that has EDM so that old style 2nd gears can be updated but have not as yet.
ok, any questions??
