Deuce starter problem

Jake, the starter relay does not have a "spark suppressor" diode, so the start switch will arc as you describe. Image below shows the missing diode. Needless to say, I have installed one on the 8x8, since that start switch on it is a 3-position type with a momentary "Start" position and would be costly to replace.

Edit: A 1N4004 diode will do fine.

I have a couple of THESE in my toolbox somewhere. Would one of them be appropriate?
