Yeppers, I have plastic jugs on mine too. I tie them to the mirror frame with a bit of string to keep them from blowing off in the wind that usually accompanies rain around here.

Cheers

Yup in hi wind areas tie to the mirror frame great tip too. When cutting the neck of the jug make sure to leave 3/4 inch tab to make the lock part that bends to grip the stack. Either way you keep the water out and save the j pipe and you 200 bucks to replace it.
Also keeps the wifes car clean!!! I know i am not the only one to start my deuce and blast carbon water all over the place lol

Wendy's Large plastic cup. Push it down snug and it doesn't come off.

Here is my solution to the cap stack requirement and it is one that works with any wind I have here which can be considerable. It was suggested by our JATONKA

No offense to you guys in those eastern states that are full of trees... several of which I've called home in my life... but you have no idea what wind is until you've lived in Oklahoma, Kansas, Panhandle of Texas, southeast Colorado... 30mph wind is everyday. They don't even mention it on the weather forecast until it passes 45 or 50mph. That coffee can will stay on the stack if it's got a 10lb plate welded to the bottom of it. rofl

If you look closely, there is a 1-1/2" nut tied to the end of the light rope that is tied to the can. I am a weather observer here and the highest wind I have logged is 72 mph and it stayed on. I have a heavier weight if it does blow off.

Sometimes when I start the truck, it does not "pop-off" until the truck is above idle, spewing slobber all over the truck beforehand. This works for me, but in no way would I say this is a solution for everyone.

We have four or five storms a year, usually in the spring, that will have sustained straight line winds in excess of 60 mph... that means the wind blows 60+ for three or four hours... trucks blow over, buildings blow over... bad things happen. During those storms there will be the occasional gust that gets over 70 and sometimes 80 but it's that unrelenting assault that does the damage. I live in the middle of the world's largest wind farm and the wind turbines actually lock down so that they don't spin out of control. Chicago calls itself the windy city... and I've been in the Sears tower when it's moving six or seven feet side to side... but it's still not like the high plains.

Agreed MDL I know the middle of this country, in the area known as the "plains", which is far larger than any non midwesterner will know, is a place with dominating winds, and weather phenomena beyond most people's comprehension. I want to relocate sometime in the future to the high desert plains in what would be the Northwestern portion of the area. I have lived alot of areas in the country, and I have a tremendous respect for the things that happen out there. And, I would point out, it is not just tornadoes that get my attention.

This works.
I've done that to my tractors, that works well. Where I part my 5 tonners(in the Ozarks of MO) it's on the side of a hill among the trees with the stack tilted just right to keep the rain out most of the time. A couple of weeks ago we had a hard 48 hour rain and I got to enjoy the stack of water syndrome, got to see the effects of a really big SLOBBER for the first time. Impressive! I think I'll try the plastic bottle fix.

Prolific slobber is a mess. I started my truck once when I forgot to cover the stack before a torrential rainstorm we had and it covered my truck, my Suburban and the comm shelter on a trailer I have. The soot is a messy and difficult mess to clean up too.

Okay, so I have what may or may not be a funny story. I'm pretty sure there are no Amish on here so it's safe.

I had a crew out to the house Monday last to put 5-6 inches of fiber reinforced 5000psi concrete in the back half of my year old barn. We were talking waiting for the last truck and I mentioned the trucks so off they ran to look at the one I had parked behind the barn so I followed them.

They were looking all over and I thought I would give them the thrill of hearing a C turbo'd Deuce start up and run.

I was on the driver's side and they were all standing on the ground by the passenger's side. (See where this is going yet?)

Well, I hadn't started her in a few weeks and we've had a little rain.....she fires up after a little crankin and she proceeds to throw up all over two of my little Amish guys. All I can say is that stuff came out so black it didn't even shine when wet.

I apologized for the old girl throwing up like that while the other guys were laughing at the two of them.

I'm sure it couldn't have been any worse than sitting behind a horse with explosive diarrhea.

;-)

I forget occasionally to cap it so I'm going down to tractor supply and get a 4" flapper dealie, and be done with it. Just started the Deuce today and blew chunks, and had to rinse it off real quick, no harm, but the flapper's the ticket.

Nothing but the best for my old girl . . . . she gets a silver plated ice bucket! It also make a great sound when I forget to remove it and it launches into the bed of the M332 sitting next to it! LOL
