If the pressure is built up according the the gages, but the emergency brake will not release then the brake shoes might be stuck. Make sure to chock the wheels very well, push in the park/emergency brake valve to release them, then get under the truck and whack the shoes with a hammer.

Yea, not understanding? Are you not getting to pressure on the gauges? or you simply cannot release the park brakes?

Not reaching pressure could be a few things, like the purge valve on the dryer is stuck open or the governor is stuck.

as mentioned if you have air but the parks brakes wont release the shoes may simply be frozen in the drums. This will happen if you park it with the shoes wet. It’s a good idea to ride the brakes a bit before you park, to dry the shoes out to help keep this from happening.

need more info to be of any more help, good luck…

Moved another 300 miles toward home after buying an extension cord and heat gun. Hubby spent about half an hour heating up the entire air system at some point the truck started building air and we were on our way a few moments later. He says all valves will be serviced or replaced when we get home and the truck goes to caterpillar. Very grateful for all of the non sarcastic and political comments. When your family is stuck in the snow over a 1000 miles from home stupid comments aren't really funny.

STOP and change/service the air drier. 1000 miles is easily enough to WRECK the compressor with back pressure. If you have moisture in the air system then the drier is not doing it's job. In wet climates they should be serviced every 6 months..... I made the mistake of driving 2700 miles with the original drier cartridge from 2008 and I did get here - but had to replace the compressor. Wasn't even rebuildable. Had to get a core out of Texas and the truck was down for weeks. Save yourself $1000 now and service the drier.

Learn how the truck works. Buy some tools. Download and read the TM. You don't need to send it to Caterpillar unless you need the computer re-rated for higher HP (assuming 3126 or C7).

OK, we are home Rick and your suggestion is first thing on the agenda. Thank you sir. We have tools coming out of our ears, soldier A is a tool junkie. We need to source a new drier cartridge and find the instructions on how to perform the procedure. Our biggest problem now that we are in fact home is time to come up with the time to read the ridiculous amount of pages in the manuals to actually find what we need. We are remodeling our home to try and get it on the market as soon as possible, so we can go do our off grid homestead. That is actually why we bought this truck.

Thank you for all the help, K

I should have also explained why the truck is going to Caterpillar. We want every thing rubber replaced. Also a good check up / tune up. This truck is going to be a critical part of our lives for at least the next 3 years.

There are several different drier designs depending on A0 vs. A1 trucks. It is generally recommended to replace the entire drier with a newer design on the A0 trucks as much better is available now. On my A1R truck I was able to order the drier cartridge from NAPA for like $65 or so.

The air system is everything on these trucks. Without air you don't move, you don't stop, even the radiator fan doesn't work. And the system is pretty complex being somewhat combat redundant, etc. You should invest in 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" air tubing and an assortment of fittings. Older trucks used compression fittings and newer truck use push-lok fittings
