Engine Mounts - Rigid - Why?

I noticed the engine mounts to the frame with hard mounts. In passenger cars the engine is often mounted on shocks or bushings to avoid putting vibrations into the frame.

Can anyone explain why the hard mount?

Would it be possible/advisable to add hydro mounts?

Is it? I just swapped my engine, and it mounts in the front to rubber isolators, and in the back (along with the transmission) to a pair of metal teeter-totter plates (which I think are mounted with rubber isolators too, because that teeter-totter is able to move and you move the engine/transmission).

I must be wrong. I'll go inspect my truck in person. Did you replace the mounts at the time of engine replacement?

I was able to find the part number for it:
12414590 or 26112
It looks like a block of rubber with a bolt in it. I wonder if we could retrofit a hydraulic mount in for more noise reduction.

No, I didn't replace mine. They seemed ok, so I just reused them.

The engine mounts on the LMTV have rubber pad sandwich between the steel parts. Same with the transmission mounts.

Most of the noise from the caterpillar engine is because it's a caterpillar diesel. If you are concerned about noise, then I'd suggest looking for an A1 truck. They are much quieter engine noise wise.

I'll do some research to see if a hydraulic mount could be put in that place.

Good luck my research has shown little to gain other than spending a bunch of money.
