Engine wont rev to 2600 rpm

Just changed the filters guessing that 5 years of neglect would have caused it not to rev past 2350 rpm which was about 52-53 mph.

Just started the truck after changing all 3 fuel filters and it still looks like it wont rev higher, well at least in idle, havent driven it yet, starting to think it could be a governor issue or throttle setting.

Thoughts?

Who neglected it for 5 years ? Try running some Power Service through it or something similer ,the injectors are probably cruded up also.

Just a tip, ATF - auto trany fluid is a great (as said on here) cleaner for fuel parts, check some other posts refering to adding atf to the tank. It may help clean out some gunk.

Hows the air filter?

The previous owner said he never changed the filters since he got the truck.

Maybe he did maybe he didnt but they were all dirty IMO. Ive ran a tank of seafoam through it already before i changed the filters but Ill run some more. What other areas could effect max RPM?

Could a clogged air filter to it?

Could valve adjustments be the cause?

Throttle stop?

Governor?

If you are using 9.00x20's might be an inaccurate gauge.

(BTW, it won't perform like your other 3 vehicles)

Many might say that 2350 is an ideal max engine speed....fat lady sings (helmet on)

Check the fuel line from the tank to the IP for places where it is kinked or pinched. There is an area near the radiator where it crosses over and many members reported it got flattened there.

Does it revv up to max without load? If so, the governor is not an issue.

Maybe the tank is full of crud too and the fuel strainer at the pickup is full of crud. If the tank is full of crud, the new filters may now be full of crud too. I always start at the source and work toward the engine. How's the flow coming from from the tank pump? As I recall, the A2 has one.

Are you relying on your tach reading from the gauge on the dash???
Mark the crank pulley with some reflective tape and give it full throttle no load.....measure it with a photo tach and see how high it goes.....if it goes to around 2800 no load (I think thats no load rpm) then you probably need to turn up your fuel. It could be your dash tach is off.

check your filter canisters for air in them. I ran out of fuel the day I drove my truck home. it ran great, all the way up to 2600 RPMS. After I ran out of fuel, (BAD FUEL GAGE), I put fresh fuel in it and only got it to 2200 RPMS. got it home and after draining all the fuel filters, and, priming the fuel system, it went right back up to 2600. give it a shot and let us know if it works

Ill try bleeding it one more time today just make sure, but Im thinking its something different all together. I wonder if the throttle is not fulling opening when the pedal is pushed or not or something alone those lines.

The truck starts on almost the first cycle of the engine, very quick , and runs smooth. Just seems to loose steam at the upper RPM range and does not want to reach max speed in each gear.
