Kind of like choosing from a candy store what piece you want - or choosing here what section to put it in - so here it goes.

Fella just came into the shop and handed this to me and said it WORKS if ya tap on the vibrators !!! Does not smell like anything is fried in it.

Do not know what to do with it - except now its sittin on my desk here at work.

PM me if this is "up" your alley. One mans junk is another mans treasure I hear.

A vibrator unit in vintage radio, is essentially a voltage converter, in order to make the voltages needed to operate specific parts that would not run on the provided voltage types. In this case, it converts 12 VDC into 115 VAC. Vibrator power supplies were common in the early days of radio, when rural houses and farms did not have AC power in them yet, almost everything was run on batteries, so a unit like this was used to convert the voltage from DC to AC. This unit was made for the Army Signal Corps for field use, its intended purpose is the same, convert DC to AC.

They are no longer needed, newer technology and voltage inverters handle this purpose without the need for vacuum tubes and large transformers.

Not sure what radio unit this is for, but it's cool!

It's vintage radio, sure modern electronics are better and have a lot of less expensive, smaller parts. But some people just like older things. If you don't...why do you happen to be on this website? ;)

Are you permanently in PMS? Seems like most of your posts are negative in nature. I have never seen another member here that had so many hostile or negative posts. Are you MADD at the wold DAWG?

I'm curious about what systems that power supply went with. It is WW2 vintage. I've asked about it on a military radio collector mailing list that I'm on, so maybe an answer will come up there.

GE, Speaking from the neutral side of the fence I have to say that a lot of your posts are rather opinionated also. "my way or no way" type of posts. I think it just goes with the personalities that we have here. A lot of ex and current military with very strong opinions. Maddawg is a good guy. He can be pretty entertaining at a campout.

Not speaking about another person and hijacking my own personal thread on top of it - I got ya all beat - you just cannot see the posts that were all negative cause they got deleted and I am on the chopping post to be beheaded. Yeah - ya all wish you were me.

I would just as soon someone speak their mind right out of the gate than be a two or three headed POS guessing game as to who they really are - you can never figure out that sort of personality - just either be mad - happy - gay (but not that kind of gay) but just be the same all the time.

I have dealt with a lot of folks from a customer service standpoint and I will tell ya one of my learned lessons - I do not like people who are two faced. They come at ya one way and all of a sudden you are bitch slapped by them being another personality - cannot figure.

ANYHOW - looks like Dawg is going to wind up with this TOOL and if I kept it - it would just collect dust.

Dawg gets FREE shipping on the item - just cause he treated me great in the past and no charge for the electronical device - ya all can bug him about it - I am just the instigator (love being the instigator - fits my personality to the TTTT)
ON with the thread now that I have totally destroyed it.

If you notice, there was a "winky" smiley after my comment, meaning my comment was lighthearted. As in "why are we all here if we don't like old stuff?"

Try decaf. Please.

Dave, I would make him pick it up at the Ga Rally! That way we get to meet a member and he would have a heck of a good time!
My dad has a civi unit like that. We used to use it to power the lights and TV when the power went out in Rabun County. Maybe he can dig it out and bring it to the rally. I would like to see it again, maybe he will give it to me.

Great way to power up a couple of 60W light bulbs in the dark, but much more valuable as a museum piece. Please make sure it gets a good home if you don't use it yourself, or donate to a museum if you're so inclined. It's a keeper!

State of the Art for it's time! Like Microwave ovens, some new technologies just would not exist if the Military and their contractors did not develop them in the first place.
I would love to have it, but be even more interested if the museum at Robins AFB or Ft. Benning would have an interest. You can write them and ask. They will respond. Their email is on the museum websites available through google. Donation could be made in your name. Good luck!

edit: Oops, a whole new page. I must have fallen asleep??? Anyway, I see it is given away, so maybe the post info above might help someone else who comes up with some really interesting artifacts in the future.
