"Frozen North" Rally 2012 - Minnesota

There has been a lot of interest in a rally in the midwest. I propose something this winter in the Minneapolis / St. Paul metro area; start small and build from there. The topic comes up in other threads, so I figured we might as well start our own.

I am offering my 80 acre farm in Lonsdale,MN...30 mins south of twin cities..I would need some help getting things together....thanks,J.Z..

Depends on when it is, if you need some stuff done on the property, I have a troop of boy scouts who can cut, stack and split wood, we can clear trails, and anything else labor intensive, I may be able to come, but am MV less sadly. It would be great to have a closer rally than GA, and there is one in WI also. So, J.Z. let us know whatd be needed.

60 acres in beans that was just taken out..so it is a cleared bean field that is rolling hills...you could bring tents or campers and park anywhere...It would be a spot to gather and could park most to anything and have space...no hookups or water...more ideas welcome...after the holidays in the snow sounds fun..mid to late January maybe....thanks,more suggestions on fun and events please....J.Z...

We could build snow cave's used to due it every winter with the Boy scouts, and stayed warm? Stayed in a tent once that was cold.

Yep we used to do that, then grew lazy and bought a tent and heater, in cabelas bargain cave

Greg has a fart box on a M200 (I believe that is correct) so he just needs power so he stays nice and toasty.

Its one thing when ya got one that is hiding, and wont start, but, its another when you have no military vehicle to drool over. AT ALL!

Ok I am feeling the cold weather pain...If we could gather quickly we could do now or dec 1st..It is dry any not that cold..yet.....when the snow melts my farm would be a NO.....MUD,mushy ground,a big no,my fields would be ruined and untillable............On a side note I could get a ballroom or meeting room at Mystic Lake casino,Prior Lake,MN,,,,,Reserved......Anytime...rooms,food,gambling......thanks..J.Z......

You lost me, isn't it cold there 8 months out of the year ?


I'd be all for a MN event but I dont think I could do anything prior to the 1st of the year. It would be nice to have something in the midwest most of the other events are a long ways away for many of us.

I think it would even be fun if we just took our trucks out to lunch somewhere or something simple like that and worked up to a bigger rally. We have the interest in the area, so I see no reason we couldn't do a few smaller events a year, then plan for a bigger weekend long event? I'm open to ideas...

It would be fun to do some type of a drive, off road or on a trail of some kind, when we all get together. Make it a day event with a meet a greet in the morning and then some sort of a mid day run and a late afternoon or evening BBQ or meal at a Steak House as a group. Make it something more then a few guys driving their M35s to Chillis for lunch, maybe thats not the 1st thing to do but I think with alittle bit a of a jump start people would travel a few hours for that type of event. Im at least 8 to 9 hours out but I can always trailer the rig in.

Are you going to be home for sure Pete? I'm up for giving it a shot. Don't know if december is a wonderful time to do it though! My weather stripping is missing around my windows. Lunch rally or something would be great. I'm more for a short trip for my first get together till I'm sure about this rig.

The purpose of this thread was for those of us in the area to start talking and see who is interested and go from there. I'll be happy to help coordinate something once I'm back. If I stay on schedule, I should be back to MN in early January. Now, I have not picked up my truck yet, it ran fine when I test drove it, but it's been sitting and I want / need to catch up on maintenance on it before I do any real serious driving or longer trips. Turning wrenches in the middle of winter is not ideal, so if I discover any work that I need to do, it may be spring before my A3 is up and ready to go. With that said, I would still be game for something with the group, even if my truck isn't quite yet. I'll know better into Jan / Feb what projects will be in store for me!

I think we have the opportunioty here to form our oun 'MV support group' for MVs in the Minnesota area as well as be able to assist anyone passing through doing recovery from either Camp Ripley or Ft. McCoy. The one thing I have learned over the years is that networking if key to success and the MV hobby is no different.
