FV-721 Fox alternator problems

Bought a British armored reconnaissance vehicl, FV-721 Fox. It had been sitting for a couple of years. Bled brakes, changed fluids, etc. and everything now works except the generator (It actually has an alternator.) light is on. Quick check with VOM confirms no charge to batteries. Naturally, the alternator is extremely difficult to reach but the combination electrical distribution box/voltage regulator is somewhat more accessible. Before I start to disassemble it does anyone have any tips?
