Today coming home the Generator gage went over into the red and stayed there a couple minutes then dropped down into the green and slowly started to drop lower.
I'm guessing that it stopped putting out voltage to the batteries.
How can I test to see if it's the voltage regulator or the generator?

Thanks for the help.
Ken

Pictures of type of generator are a great place to start Ken.

Maybe more info in your signature line so we can help without guessing.

That is a 60A, bad regulators are very common and cause the exact symptoms you describe, replace the brushes also.
It should be obvious once you get the gen apart, there are usually some burnt components.
