I recently purchased a m 1028 that is located in little falls,mn and plan to pick it up 1/4/13. Then hopefully drive it under its' own power down to my home town of plainfield,il. I was wondering if there are any suggestions anyone might make and if there are any safe havens i might encounter along the way. I plan the obvious, bringing a tool kit, spare fuel filter, warm clothes + some oil and jumper cables. Also just asking how reliable the unit markings are. This unit was listed as a m 1028, but the tag on the door post says m1028a1. When making my decission to purchase the unit was running and moving under its' own power in the video and with 10k on the odometer i decided to take a chance.

Any thoughts anyone wants to share would be appreciated.

Pete

All fluids, belts, batteries,AAA card, credit card, dont go over 50 mph! Just because it moved on gl doesnt mean anything! I would highly suggest towing it back. Ive seen vehicles on gl with holes blown in the block and they list it as running. I bought a blazer off gl once and it moved and ran but had a blown rear end!

Insurance...
CC with Big Limit...
Are the tires any good, mine were not...
Are the batteries still good...
Are the front and rear pumpkins full...
You have a SAFE place you can ditch the truck and run for parts and work on the truck...

I'm with Ryan77, tow it back.
I did drive my animals back home, 350+ miles, but after all was said and done, I realize how LUCKY I was too!

Anyone offer any info on the spec plate? The gl listing describbed it as a m 1028,the spec plate on the door post says m1028a1,but does have a pickup bed. Does anyone have any info on shipping units? I would not mind caravaning if anyone is going up north to retreive a unit in the same time frame, safety in numbers.

Unit update, received my cucv today from little falls,mn - you guys were right - they do look better in pictures. But it is still in great shape, it starts, runs and drives almost like a vehicle with 10 k miles on it should. Needs some little things done like a good pm service. My only complaint is that it take 2 men and a boy to get the ignition key out of the lock. I guess that sort of explains the well used section of chain and a padlock on the driver side floor. On an upswing it came with a 12 ton bottle jack behind the seat that is brand new and works, no spare tire and a full tank of fuel. What more could a guy want?? Will post some pics soon. So far we are mission ready! Thanks for all your replies

They put the chain and lock on because all cucv's have the same keys!! Ur lock might just need to be lubed!!
