Picked her up at Camp Robinson in North Little Rock, two new batteries, checked the fluids and a little gas to prime her and cranked right up. Only real need I notice right off is that one of the base mechanics liked the tires and I ended up with his old set of tires and wheels and no spare, but other than that a good straight truck!
I got about ten miles out of Little Rock with I started to smell antifreeze, another 2-3 minutes my windshield was fogging up from the inside then I saw a few drops of water on the passenger side floorboard. Stopped and sure enough I had water leaking out of the bottom of the heater box just outside the firewall. Stopped and picked up a couple of gallons of distilled water and limped to the cabin driving 45-50. I leaked maybe four gallons over the 85 mile trip, I am sup prized there is no shutoff for the engine water to the heater core . One other strange thing did happen, when I switched on the lights the horn would blow, I pulled the wire to it and all is fine except I don't have a horn or any high-beams, it also looks like someone tried to adjust the head lights a little too much it looks like both of the top adjusting screws are stripped.
So now a little maintenance and I need to find a hitch that doesn't look to bad on it!

You can pick up a hose connector 3/4 to 5/8 and disconnect the heater hoses at the fire wall and connect them together, you won't have heat, but no leak.

My brother had that idea as well but I will need the heater, I just need to get it apart to see what is leaking, I hope just a loose connection? I also noticed both alternators belts were a little loose, tightened them up now my gen 2 light is on, so I guess I will loosen them up a little to see what happens?

I have mine by passed for now, not a bad leak more of a smell, I will either have to hook it up again or fix it as winter is coming. It seems to come out by taking off 3 or 4 nuts on the fire wall and one behind the ashtray. Said not to be a bad job, once out i'll take it to a rad shop as the new ones are said to be of low quality.

I have seen them for sale for under $40, but I think you may be right on the quality, it is hard to beat OEM stuff, I may hit up some junkyards.
