Help ID a water tank

Hoping I can get some help to ID where this water tank may have come from/came off of. Has US Navy markings on it. It has clearly been shortened by the weld marks for it. Fits between the fenders almost perfectly, but I have no idea what it was for originally. Any ideas?

Looks the size of a WWII 1010 class fire fighting trailer or similar. There were several kinds.
