HMMWV Portals

I wanted to switch my transmission out to a 4-speed due to the noise at 35-40 with the engine screaming in 3rd. He said it wouldn't make a difference due to the portals I have on the 1097R1.
My question is:
- How do I tell if a HMMWV has these portals when looking online?
- Do all the HMMWV's have them?

All portals have the same ratio. and all HMMWVs have them

It sounds like you need to stop listening to "HE" a 4 speed will make a significant difference although it is a large amount of work and cost.

My mechanic! He told me that the noise would still be there due to the portals. He said that a transmission with overdrive would still be loud due to the portals. I'd just like to go 40-45mph and be able to talk at the same time.

You will either need to spend a lot of time soundproofing the truck, or buy a decent quality intercom with headsets for everyone.

There is probably a sticker on the dash area or above the windshield stating that hearing protection is required while operating. It's there for a reason.

Hummer H1 soundproofed his two door hard top and it is amazingly quiet.

Killmat.

Steelsoldiers just sprayed his 4 door with Lizard Skin.

Lots of options.
