How prone to cracking are the main bearing webs when removing the main cap bolts?

How prone to cracking are the main bearing webs when removing the main cap bolts? I have been informed by two machine shops which wont touch my 6.2 for a rebuild that this is a really common problem with the 6.2 I want to check with you guys on this before I pull the bolts to put in new bearings.

When I put a 6.2 in my M715, I tore down 2 running engines to refresh, and they had cracked mains. The 3rd was a charm... Not saying that they all are bad, just my experience

What year what casting ins the block?
It cracks before the main cap bolts are touched?

I don't know if this is it but there is a number 177 cast into the block.

Have you dug in to it yet? Do you know if it's cracked?

Some series blocks are more prone to cracking than others. I don't remember which offhand.
Removing and reinstalling the bolts don't cause the cracks.
If it's not cracked, rebuild it with ARP studs and a girdle. If there are cracks, they can be fixed if they're not too deep. There's an insert called Lock-n-Stitch that is supposed to be a permanent fix for these cracks.

I haven't yet because I'm scared for what I will find. I really cant afford a new block right now or the down time to do anything about it. The engine was running fine before the head cracked but I know that doesn't mean anything.
