Just check in through the gate and stop at the search area. I went in with my Buddy once who had a retired military sticker on his windshield and said we did not have to stop. According to the MP's that ran us down and escorted us off base we did need to stop and be searched.

If you are going to pick up an item from the auctions, go to the contractors entrance; not the main entrance. There, they will search your person & your truck(closely) for any contraband that you will find listed on their website(i.e. what not to take on a military base). If you clear that, then they run a background check on you & others with you for any felony convictions, after passing that hurdle; you are given a day pass, a map & allowed on base to go get your auction wins.
I found the MPs with their M4s to be a bit intimidating @ first; but they turned out to be really good people doing a thankless job!

I forgot about the drivers license, vehicle registration & proof of insurance!

I just went on MacDill AFB today. Drivers license, insurance and registration for my vehicle. Photographed and given a pass. I was there working not picking up goodies. Drove right past Central Command.

FloridaAKM is correct , do not stop at the main gate . Do NOT take anyone with you that has a background issue. I called a cab ( White Cab I think ) , cab picked me up and he had a rider , said he was a 'trainee' , we went to the main gate ( wrong , meter tickin ) , then we drove up to the correct gate , handed over IDs ( all 3 of us) , searched the cab REAL good , then we were marched into the little security office where a MP is sitting at the computer and we're just waiting , about 20 mins go by and the MPs lead us out and immediately seperate us. The 'trainee' with me on one side , the driver of the cab on the other. I was thinking ohhh **** , what is getting ready to happen? So one of the MPs came to us and said the driver can not come on base! hmmm so I asked him if his 'trainee ' could drive the cab to the GL building ( 5 miles away still ) , and he said NO ! ... and he wanted his cab fare ! Dude , you are stranding me out here 5 miles away ? ... AND you want the money? I wadded up 2 dollars and thew it in the backseat and slammed the door. So I hung out with the MPs for about a half hr , great guys , and John came out from the GL site to get me , anyway ... don't call White Cab company in Warner Robbins ( probably fired that guy though)

And no not use your cell phone if your vehicle is moving. This applies to all Federal installations.

When you call to schedule your pickup, ask person you talk to what the security procedures are and what gate to go to. I have been on several different bases and they are all different. Some require the background search to be done before you show up at the gate, visitor center, etc. Robins is pretty straight forward but procedures change.

I ran into the same problem at Robins with a friend that they would not let on the base. I asked the MP if I took him off base, would I have to sit in the line again for another two hours. He told me since I had my pass I could go in any gate. I told my buddy he was lucky, if I had to sit in that line again he would be walking his A off the base! I dropped him at the Air Museum and went in the gate by it which is close to the DRMO.

Warner Robins pick up question

Do you need an appointment to pick up at Warner Robins?

I did a search and couldn't find the answer. Called the site and got a recording saying pick up times are Mon-Thu 8-2. The auction says you need an appointment.

What's the scoop?

Thanks

Bill

All GL sites require an appointment. Don't "just show up" you will not get loaded out. Keep trying.

FloridaAKM & Tow4 pretty much have hit the nail on the head. When you call GL to discuss the pick up of your auction wins the GL rep can tell you what will be required to get on base.

By the way, the Air Force stopped issuing vehicle decals some time ago. They only look at your ID now so that means everybody has to stop, even people who have military status (Reg/ Res/Retiree) It is my understanding that all branches were going to follow suit (Army, Navy & USMC) about no longer issuing vehicle decals and I guess it is true as I have had to stop at the main gate to get on base at recent visits I have made to FT Benning and FT Knox. I have a decal on my car that I got from Great Lakes Naval Station (I used to work on base) but the gate guard didn't pay any attention to it. Be sure to have your registration and proof of insurance with you though because if you are involved in an accident or are stopped by the MPs they will ask to see it.

I know it says to call for an appointment, and occasionally I do if I have big lots to pickup where it will take multiple trips. I've picked up there for several years and they have never asked if I had an appointment or not. (Used to be stationed there before GL took over) Mark is one of the guys that loads the stuff and he, the GL manager, and the others have always been very pleasant and helpful. A couple of years ago I had a EUC problem for months and the GL manager called AZ and it was OK'd the next day. Just be sure you get there during their posted hours.

Be sure you have your paid invoice with you. Having been to most of the GL locations in Ga, S.C. and Alabama, I have found the security to be tighter at Robbins than any other, due to the fact that there are multimillion dollar aircraft and who knows what else on base. If you have the proper paperwork, it doesn't take long.

Just returned from from Robbins and wanted to give a heads up. The security has been tightened again within the last month, be sure to have a current insurance card, a current tag receipt and a paid invoice for your purchase from GL or you won't be allowed on base. The tag receipt and insurance card have not been required in the past and the State of Georgia no longer requires a physical copy of either since all automobile records are computerized and can be searched by Ga. LEO's. The base security doesn't have the ability to do that search hence the change in policy. I wanted to let those who have been used to past procedures know about the change so they won't be blindsided.

I got on the base fairly easy, picked up my "stuff" and got off. It took a while to work my way through the queue in the contractor entrance, but the MP's were pleasant (although well armed) and the process wasn't bad. Perhaps it was 'cause it was September 10th.

Now, the folks at G/L were over and above in being helpful which made everything easier.

And yes, one must have registration and proof of insurance. I even had my trailer registration with me, but they didn't ask for it.

Thanks to all who responded to this thread..

“Across the board, it is a matter of force protection,” he said. “(A decal) doesn’t always identify a vehicle as belonging to a Department of Defense employee, and just having the sticker can potentially make an individual a target.”
