How to spot CARC?

Hey all,

I'm pretty sure my Deuce is NOT painted with CARC, but given its nasty reputation, I'm wondering how to check for certain before I start sanding for the next paintjob. I recall reading somewhere that it should be written/stenciled somewhere on the truck, but I forget where that is... Any help?

CARC isn't always stenciled on the vehicle. I'm to the point now I can look at CARC and tell, but what a lot of people do is take a rag with lacquer thinner and start scrubbing. If the paint starts to come off it's not CARC.
CARC is no more nasty when you're sanding than any other paint. When sanding ANY paint you need to take the proper precautions.

What's the lowdown on CARC? Is that Chemical Agent Resistant Coating? What does it do? Should CARC be left alone? What about repainting with something else? Any problems with that?

Yep it sure is! It can be nasty stuff if mishandled! I'm letting Truck Clean in Evansville soda blast the old CARC paint off since they have worked with military vehicles for about 25 years or so. They are all set up to easily handle this job. The estimate is about $400 start to finish on the blast job. Then after all the bodywork is finished they will repaint the truck in four color CARC Desert Cammo for about $1000. I'm not about to complain!

That sounds like a great deal I wish I had someone around here to do the blasting for me but I'm the one left holding the (sand) bag I pay $8.98 for a bag of 70 grit, it lasts about 45 min./1 hour. Truck Clean is set up with a couple hundred gallons of desert cammo paint from The Gulf War and Iraqi Freedom. They painted over 1000 trucks in Mississippi before being shipped over there! They have quite a mobile operation! They're working in Kansas right now. You might want to see if a road trip would be worth while! Just an .
