IMG code is off?

I have tried uploading pics into a post and I can't. I have always been able to do this and now see that the "IMG code is OFF". I tried to change this setting in my user CP section, but no luck. I am uploading from my camera and NOT from a hosting web site.

The "Posting Rules" at the bottom of my screen says "You MAY post attachments".

[SIZE=2][COLOR=yellow]Anyone know what gives? I don't believe I have done anything wrong for a mod to suspend any picture posting feature. Any help is appreciated.[/COLOR][/SIZE]

IMG code has nothing to do with uploading attachments. IMG code is for linking to images hosted elsewhere. That's been off for ages. I don't know why you can't upload attachments though.

OK, Thanks guys. My camera was working to upload pics here a week ago, so I wrongly assumed that the IMG code was the issue. I don't know what the deal is with my camera then. The format is in jpg. so I gotta play with it I guess. Thanks again!

There are also size issues. If your resolution is too high, the site will only include a thumbnail. Somewhere there is a list of the various sizes and resolutions that are allowed.

It may be a size issue. My rechargable battery died a couple days ago and I plopped in a couple AA'a. I didn't reset the camera at all, so it might be taking MEGA pictures. Thank you for the help.

Not being particularly computer savvy (a "techtard" as my buddy so politely calls me) I go with what Sarge taught me-

Open the desired picture in Paint.
Under the 'Image' tab, use 'Stretch/Skew'
Downsize the picture to 100kb or less (experiment will show what to use, for me a 1.5mb picture at 40% usually comes out around 98kb)
Save with a new name so you don't ruin your original (I usually just add a 'b' at the end of the name)
Post, following the instructions. If I can do it, you can!

Hope that helps.
Cheers

M813rc,

I do the same thing! I'll get it to work when I get a second to mess with it again. I'm betting my camera just reset itself when I changed the batteries. Thanks for all of the input on my Q!

Wouldn't the img code make it easier? Then you could just put one up from a hosting site and it could probably be seen by people not signed in. It would be easier to save too.

Or is it off to encourage more users?

I am not a huge fan of the way you view and save pictures now but it works.

And what would happen when the picture is dropped from the hosting site?

The whole reason SS does pictures the way it does is so that the messages and pictures will always stay together.

another thing, slightly off topic but in the same vein, anything south of "fiddle sticks, drat, or nincompoop" gets edited out like this is romper room or something. we drive big ****ing trucks and shoot big ****ing guns (most of us anyway), we might be able to handle it. heavens to betsy.

I agree but then, think of it this way.

It’s not our board we don’t own it so we don’t say how things are done here.

We could always make suggestions to our host but that’s about as far as our input goes and how he chooses to operate it is his choice.

If we want to create our own board and run it our way we are always free to do so.

See my post above:

Go to that link-we discussed the img tag issue at length, with an explanation of all the reasons behind it.

There is a reason for that too, though. I have had my kids reading on here for several years, since they were quite small, and I want them reading the 'romper room' version.
Don't get me wrong, I can upon occasion let forth a stream of invective that might make a sailor blush, but not in front of ladies or children.

So let us continue with at least the pretense of being gentlemen!

I agree. My young children often look at this site with me and I know I don't have to worry about pictures of half naked women or cursing in a narrative. Thanks for that, SS!
