Got a chance this weekend to kill a few rats on the 813,not literaly but project wise.Started by flushing the cooling system. The trucks got about 4000 mi. on it since depot rebuild and the antifreeze did'nt look all that great.
I removed the bottom petcock valve from the rad. and let it go.Typical brown crap along with the black at the last.Did that a few times and flushed with hose water. Then I removed the thermostat and put almost a half a box of cascade dishwasher detergent ,powder form (mixed with hot water),in the system and ran it for about a half an hour then dumped it.Then filled with water and repeated for a few more times till the water on the dump looked nice and clean.
I then drained as much of the block as I could by taking out the petcock on the side of it.Then installed a new thermostat and gasket and a coolant filter set up along with a block heater.Filled with almost 9 gal. of Chevron 50/50 HD antifeeze. No leaks! All is well. While under the hood I installed one of jwaller's oil filter spin-ons,with a NAPA 1970 XD filter.Way better!
Lastly I put the truck up on blocks and removed all ten tires and wheels with the spare to exchange for a set of Michelin 11.00-20 XL's I'm getting from Hundy next weekend.Should be cool!
