I just bought a 1984 M1009 with 61k on the clock. This one was in the fleet of the China Grove Police Department and went to auction about 3-4 years ago, and I bought it from the guy who got it at auction. He never messed with it and it sat the whole time. I put batteries in it and it will crank for about 5 seconds, so after the wealth of know;edge I gathered here I will be replacing the mechanical with an Airtek in-line electric fuel pump, a spin on fuel filter. I will be checking and cleaning the glass check ball first while inspecting the rubber fuel lines which will be replaced shortly.

This thing has the added on Air Conditioning which I hope to get working later on, if it does not work now. The Police Dept. also added a factory switch in the ashtray and electric window motor and switch for the tailgate.

I got it cranked and it ran for a few minutes then died out again. I noticed that I have diesel coming from what I think is the front seal on the injector pump___WILL the front injector pump seal leaking allow the pump to suck enough air to cause a no run.

I think its weeping out of the injector pump because the GLASS CHECK ball keeps hanging up_____It will run and cut off and when I pull the glass check valve its stuck again...more brake cleaner pushing in and out with the straw to FREE up the GLASS BALL and it will run again.....I am not sure how much cleaning I am going to have to do.

I took a few pics with it how I bought it and then after scrubbing it with some purple stuff. I cannot wait until I get a tag on it and start driving it.

Oh that's gonna be a nice one, I bet the PD spent a fortune getting that in-dash A/C put in. Better see about draining the ancient diesel and putting in some fresh. Truck probably sat for a while at the PD before they sold it.
