Lincoln and Wellannd M543

This is the M543 (not M62) we are going to have by hook or by crook. The deal is too good to pass. All functional with all nearly new snatch blocks and a new roll of winch cable. going to test all functions on Sat morn. This vehicle has been outside for 20 years and needs a good clean up and mostly cab work and fr bumper. Owner is a super guy and may even donate it for tax receipt.

That's the Continental R6602 - not as fast, but way more power than any of the other powerplants found in the M543. The truck will get about 2 miles per gallon.

Looks like the intake and exhaust are both on the pass side. May even be a combination manifold like the old chevy inline six manifolds.

I gotta' step up on this one...having the 602 in my wrecker for years, then repowering with the Mack 673 I can positively say the Diesel has a lot more grunt and is faster on the hills.

Mileage went from 1 to 5 MPG, too.

BTW, the 602 lives on in a restored White road tractor in Jerome, Az.

The R6602 is, to me, a much more smoother, responsive engine for running the crane, than the MultiFuel or others. After flat out, for about a mile, you can also actually PASS someone on interstate !!! LOL . This is, of course, the engine I have in my M62, and as gas engines go, I like it. Good heavy duty engine. But, I must admit, that I prefer a diesel, by far. That having been said, G744, how about enlightening us on the ENDT Mack engine swap ?

Thanks,
John
