LMTV Alternator Disaster, engine now catastophic

Well this sucks. My alternator fell right off. Snapped the two bolts going into the engine and the big long bolt is nowhere to be seen. Going through the parts TMs right now to see what I have and don't have. Ugh what a mess. At least I brought a lot of warm clothes.

It dropped the belts of course so I noticed when it overheated. I'd drive it into town but of course, no water pump.

I am right at the interstate on an exit. uh. 317 on I84. I spent the night outside last night in -7 in nevada so I am fine on that front. My biggest challenge now is how to get it towed... do I call for a low boy or try to get the shafts off for a lift tow. I do have tools but I've not dropped the shafts before and the conditions do not look ideal. They also look heavy.

Side note I checked through and I have everything except the long bolt that goes through the alternator and the two bolts that snapped off in the engine. Thank god the alternator and mount look OK - they just are going through a separation. Haha.

Alternative, anyone think I could get a service truck out? If I knew the bolt sizes... all the guy has to do is back the bolts out of the block. Or I guess I could somehow get into town. Uber in baker city? It's 13 miles.

You can drive in the daytime for about 30 minutes or more without the alternator functioning.

You mentioned going through the parts TMs to see what parts you need. Get the NSNs for bolts from the manuals and run them through Parttarget for the specs, if nobody posts up the sizes.

$595 later towed in. The guys were super pros, dropped the drive shaft, the whole bit. My front trailer harness worked for the lights, they thought it was pretty cool how everything was on the front. Said it was like cheating. It's dropped off at "grumpy's" now, that's a promising sign right. Place is closed but they had called ahead for me, so we'll see what we see in the morning.

Thanks smike, saved me the trouble of running it down!

There are several threads here that conclude that alternator shedding is due to driveshaft vibration due to the spline being worn out. Something to look at tomorrow.
