LMTV/MTV Workshop

Hello fellow FMTV enthusiasts! I'm polling the forums for those interested in attending an FMTV workshop. The workshop would tentatively be set for this coming fall. I expect it would be 3 to 4 days long. Classes would be taught by several of the most capable and experienced members in our community. The workshop would be held in North San Diego County at my place. I have 5 acres and a 10,000 square foot workshop with 3 bays to accommodate several simultaneous classes, if necessary. Plenty of space for everyone. If there is a need to charge a fee to attend, it would be specifically to support the travel expenses of instructors who are willing to share their time and expertise. I am not hosting the workshop to make a profit. There would also be the opportunity to sell and/or exchange parts or items. It would be a great time to meet and collaborate with each other, learn a lot, acquire any parts you've been looking for, and make great memories. If interested, please participate in the poll with either "Yes" or "No" below so I can assess if there is enough interest to plan it. If you have any comments or suggestions, feel free to make one below. Thank you!

I've been asked to instruct and that sounds like a great time! I'll focus on A1 and A1R education. Definitely bringing diagnostic laptops and all the gear to do programming and re-rates, etc. Also discussed having an ECO hub install class - need someone with a truck and hubs that wants assistance with installation.

Would love class subject recommendations and requests!

Make sure to bring your ruler to discipline those wanting to run old tires 😄

Air over hydraulic pump rebuild, Ctis overview and maintenance, J1939 education, Etc.
Yeah the CTIS class is a must. That can also include using Dana Diagnostics to it's full potential, the pitfalls of 900 series controllers, Theory of operation and components. Adding additional program access to the truck's harness, etc. My truck would be there to show how that works.

Someone needs to bring a truck setup with manual CTIS. @Ronmar , or @ckouba is local to me and copied Ron's system. It actually better illustrates theory of operation since you can interact with the control, and inflate/deflate solenoids and see what they do when you manually activate them while being shown what is happening on a diagram.

I do have a dirty old hydraulic pump and kit here......

Maybe an ECO hubs install.
Maybe a tire swap.
There are videos for those though.
There are some videos on changing a tire. Most don't show the best way, and few talk about the various different rim options, run flat and tire options, etc. And they aren't interactive much in terms of Q&A or hands on.

Same with ECO hubs. Many of the videos are amateur or overlook details and there's nothing like hands on. I haven't seen a video other than possibly from Mike that was recorded by someone that has done more than their own truck. I've helped with, or handled on my own, five trucks worth of ECO hubs now. Three MTV and two LMTV and all coming from the perspective of a career technician. I can add some tips and tricks and answer many questions that will be worth the time for those that haven't done it yet.

2300 miles for this, 1300 miles for the Texas rally, 1100 for Louisiana...... I'm gonna need a Huey..... Is there a chance of setting up a Livestream so us "too far away-ers" can tune in should we want to?
Would be awesome. I'm in the midwest with all sorts of family obligations so I can't make it. When I was young, dumb and full of.....time. I'd be game.

I would also love to make it but am burning a whole lotta time April/May and a So Cal trip isn't really in the cards for me.

I am aware of two others who will make the Flagstaff Overland Expo, and I am thinking of the same. Maybe find a convenient nearby locale to do an FMTV-centric gathering? Weekend of May 16-18 in Flagstaff, AZ.

Pretty easy to make any truck manual to demonstrate. The last two of Dave Andersons roundups I went to, I brought a little switch box that has my dead controllers cannon plug and one momentary double throw toggle switch installed. I could plug into anyones CTIS harness And manually control the system. I built it with Control hardwired and the toggle switch manipulated Supply or Deflate. You turned ign on/off to activate/release the control solenoid to seal/vent the PCU… Easy to build if someone has a bad controller with connector kicking around. But be forewarned, using it at the meets, I found leakage on nearly every truck I hooked up to:)

it was more popular than a Cheerleader at a Dungeons and Dragons convention…
