Fuel would be more expensive and you have more useage if you pull it on a trailer. You'd be lucky to get anything over 11mpg when towing a trailer. Then you have to go both ways.
Most truckers want $3 per mile.
You might want to be more specific on how you wanted to get it there. Driving is the cheapest way I know of, even if you have to buy a plane ticket back.

Well the Army is moving me in June. I mentioned towing it with my Tahoe, BUT I dont want to tow cross country at my max GVWR. Plus, towing that much would be just stupid considering the trailer and truck would be about 2800lbs heavier than the tow vehicle.
I have 3 vehicles and 1 wife. Im looking to avoid towing a vehicle out there wether it be towing the 1028 with my tahoe, or towing my wifes acura. If my math is correct, im looking at 350-400$ for diesel (@ 4$/gal). aproximately 15 mpg for 1300 miles. You think 23-2500 rpm is sustainable for that many miles? At 65 mph I'm running 2300-2320 rpms...

I was hoping someone might be headed out west sometime between now and June and could to take it to get it in the vicinity of Denver/Colorado Springs/Pueblo for a decent price...

I appreciate the offer-I will keep it in mind! Although...I hear through the CAMO grapevine that you have a special place in your heart for CUCVs:x

I think I have a pin hole leak SOMEWHERE on the bottom my radiator. I am pressure testing it tomorrow and hopefully will find it. I drove it 420 miles about a month ago with no issues, but I just noticed a tiny bit of anti freeze by the left core support/steering box. It's a tiny bit, maybe 1-2 tablespoons, but going 1300 miles, I want to find and stop the source of the errant coolant.

Are you doing a DITY move?

Rent a U-Haul Truck and a car hauling trailer (U-Haul has them).......use the big truck to move your household goods and tow the CUCV behind it.

I did that when I PCS'd from Fort Stewart to Fort Living Room in AL back in 1995.

I had bought a junk Ford Escort from GSA at Stewart and I hauled it back to Bammer and parted it out for a nice profit.

You best option may be to let Ron drive it out....with the price of diesel going north every day any way you do it is going to cost some money.

Ron was in our convoy when we helped ZoggyO move some of his stuff from Jersey to Neb. He can do the deal for you.

WM this will be my 4th DITY move in 6 years. I'm SICK of doing full DITYs. Plus, the mileage rate went DOWN so the financial incentive isn't really there for me. This is the first time I'm letting the gov't move (and break) my stuff. I just have to figure out how I'm going to get a 3rd vehicle out there.
