M1008 Horrible rear brake job

Really getting sick of watching my truck get destroyed year after year because the morons in The People's Republik of Komneticut think putting straight salt down is best. These brakes were only about 3 yrs old and probably 5000 miles.
I could not get the drum off. The adjuster was rusted so bad . I had to knock the studs into the drum and then pull the hub off. Then I got the torch inside and cut the wheel adjuster. What a mess. Everything was shot.

I have found the best way it to knock out the studs and pull the hub. Even if the brake drums are junk, you'll be beating on them big boys long and hard before the crack.

That's only a few winters, holy crap! I thought Cleveland was bad!
CT uses straight salt magnesium chloride solution with no rust inhibitor from what I am told. It's destroying everything. The bridges are all falling apart, people with 5 yr old trucks have rotted frames, brake lines etc. The Truck assoc(forget which one, was on the local news) has threaten to sue because of te damage it's doing but these arrogant (insert expletive) don't care. My sandblast guy said he is busy like mad and had an 09 Dmax come in with a hole in the frame.

hey before you put that all back together maybe just the picture but it looks like you have the same size brake shoes on the same side . hopefully I am wrong and it was just the picture. and I am sure you know but it is suppose to be a long and short brake shoe on one side the long one on the back and the short one in front. please just take a quick double take at them . and like I said hopefully it is just the way the picture looks. but I have seen brake put back together the wrong way and people chase there butts around with problems' they cant fix

just a side note if you spay some sort of grease on the parts before you put back together would help with rust never seize or a good spay of wd-40 or paint things real good just ideas

That ammount of rust is par for the course up here in Montreal. In Quebec, they put down salt on the roads like it is going out of style. It is taking its toll on our bridges. The salt melts the snow and the now salty water seeps into cracks and corrodes the re-bar in the cement. That causes expansion which then cracks the cement. For our drum brakes, the only thing we can do is constant preventative maintenance and keeping everything coated in grease or anti sieze.

They are installed correctly. Look closer. It's deceiving because the shoes are clocked slightly counter clockwise.
