Hi, been lurking here for a couple of months, finally getting around to signing up.
I am new to military vehicles, picked up a 1985 M1009 this summer to use as a snowplow. I have a few Chevy squarebodies, and when I came across the M1009, I couldn't pass it up.
It's in pretty good shape, mostly original, not much rust. The PO thought it had a bad head gasket because of steam coming out of the exhaust. He didn't drive it much, and I think it was just condensation collecting in the mufflers. Although I have only driven it short distances so far, the oil and coolant seem fine.
I am in the proscess of installing a Meyers plow which came off of my 1980 K20 (which is getting torn down and restored).
