M35 Wheel Vibration

Ok, I am looking for some help here. New 1998 A3 with 4000 miles gets a serious vibration at around 43 - 55 MPH. It comes and goes. If it starts you can stop it by laying off the gas. It feels like a tire bouncing up and down, maybe in the rear. Anybody have this issue or any ideas?

Thanks

Robert

ussually its a tire air pressure issue, I had that problem with a duece, turned out there was only 10 psi in some of the rear tires. They looked good and they thumped like they are full , but the pressure gauge tells the tale.

Aired em up and the wheel vibration went away,

does'nt the a3 have CTIS ?

check the nuts and bolts and linkage in the rear end . then I would have to say it is a wheel bearing going bad or the nut is loose on the axle

A3 so I am guessing singles.

Check U joints............starts / stops on acceleration.
Have someone follow and watch tires. Look for bent rim or out of balance.
If balance, dismount, turn 90 to 180 remount and try again.

I have an A2 that had badly cupped tires on the midaxle. Check for any unusual wear. Might need a couple replacement tires.

I had that exact same problem. Then finally a tire went flat, and when I had it pulled off the rim they found a new flap rolled up inside the tire. It still had the rubber band around it. It was between the tube and the tire bouncing the truck around for the last couple years!

Wow!!!

Prolly not Robert's case, though... his are TL.
But..... those single wheel/tires are real heavy weights, so a slight unbalance could cause the same effect as yours!
