A dumb question. How do I hook up a aftermarket 12v inverter to the 24v system on a M38 for temporary use?

instead of using and inverter just hook it to the #1 battery.

Are you looking to get 110volts from an inverter that has a 12 volt input? If so, and you will not be drawing too much, then just hook the inverter to the battery that only gives you 12 volts, which BillF says is the #1 battery.
