HI guys we have a m548 as a fire fighting rig that they possibly ruined the engine on. I'm just curious as to how hard it is to get out. I'm a heavy equipment mechanic I know I can do it just looking for some tips and tricks to it.

I removed the engine, transmission & transfer case as one complete unit from my M548A1. I used a civilian wrecker & spreader beam to do the job. It wasn't too difficult to do, just a lot of unbolting of stuff in the way.

A heads up to you: there is a a large flexible oil line that connects the steering differential to the bottom of the engine (shared oil sump?) that'll have to be unhooked before you can you can remove the engine. It can be accesssed from underneith the hull via a round access plate that is bolted fast to the hull. It was a real PITA to get to.

Good luck, let me know if I can be of any more service to you.
Matt
